The Golden Combination
`I always knew I wanted to be an artist, but hadn’t chosen a direction yet. Should it be a ‘fine art’, like painting or sculpting, or something more ‘applied’, like fashion or industrial design? In art school whilst sketching the models beautiful curves in circular motions, it struck me: what if I used a woman’s body as my canvas?`
The concept of designing lingerie and empowering the woman who wore it, completed Marlies’ notion of art. At marlies|dekkers we believe lingerie is about seduction – but you have to seduce yourself first.
Once the brands mission had been found, soon after, three important components that defined the look and philosophy of the brand were born:
Design: No frou-frou. In the past, dominant brands in the world of lingerie liked to wrap women up like bon-bons. Marlies is a minimalist, and in that regard, each design line was going to matter.
Fit: A superb fit and outstanding quality is always top of the list. My goal: to make the Rolls Royce of bras, knickers and swimwear.
Feminine Point of View: What do women want? After centuries of the male point of view dominating art and design, we want to continuously (re)discover what made women tick.
These three elements became The Golden Combination and when transformed into our product, a woman feels confident enough to explore our motto: Dare to Dream, Dare to Grow, Dare to Be.

For the designs of this Fall Winter 2014 collection, I was inspired by the heroic story of Joan of Arc. Reflecting the past years while having experienced all aspects of life, I found this legend of Joan of Arc admirable and inspirational.
