Sounds of Seduction

by Johnny Kelvin

Question: what do a lingerie designer, a singing DJ and a geisha have in common? Let Johnny Kelvin show you…
Johnny Kelvin is one of those people with the amazing ability to reinvent themselves. Starting out at three years old as a church singer, he went on to become a dancer, a singer, a DJ and a hit-writer (remember no. 1 hit ‘Love comes home’ with DJ Jean?). It was in his latest incarnation – a hugely successful ‘singing DJ’ – that I bumped into him in Ibiza. Quite literally; Johnny has the kind of magnetic energy that just pulls you into his orbit.

We knew each other many lives ago, both of us having grown up in Brabant, so we had a lot of catching up to do. While I was telling him about my latest collections, and how my designs are always inspired by different muses, Johnny suddenly grabbed my hand, looked me in the eyes and said with a big smile: “You need me!” It turned out that Johnny loves lingerie. He loves women, he loves the process of seduction and he believes that lingerie plays a huge role in it. “Like music, lingerie is a form of foreplay. It’s all about awakening the senses,” he insisted. “Why not create the perfect soundtrack for your lingerie? Music that matches each stage of the ritual of seduction?”

When I told him that my upcoming collection was inspired by the geisha -to me, the living embodiment of the art of seduction- he insisted on starting out right away. We would launch his ‘soundtrack of seduction’ during the presentation of my Geisha Collection at the Rijksmuseum. He promised me with a wink: “I’ll surprise you.”

I will admit it: I’m a bit of a control freak. But when, on the morning of our big Geisha show, we were still waiting for Johnny to fly in from some international gig, I didn’t stress out. I trusted him 100%. And sure enough, right when the models were all ready to go -wearing their stunning wigs and otherworldly geisha make up- Johnny skipped in with his usual big grin and went straight for the sound booth. The show was on!

It was one of those magic moments when everything comes together: the models strutting their endless legs to the bewitching beat while flashing my lingerie in an explosion of colour,
Johnny seducing the audience with his soulful live vocals, guiding them from one climax to the next. In one word: orgasmic.

But why don’t you listen for yourself? Allow yourself to be seduced? You can listen Johnny’s sounds of seduction from our site here,  and give your m|d lingerie experience a whole new dimension. Dare to awaken ALL your senses!

Johnny about the soundtrack:
“I have divided my musical journey of transformation into four segments: Discovery, Togetherness, Climax and Romance. Each one lasts fifteen minutes and can be used in many different ways: to get in touch with your inner muse, to seduce yourself and your partner, to play while making love even! Be creative, use scented candles, blindfolds etc. But most of all, have FUN!”

In January, I presented my newest FW20 collection during a show full of dance and entertainment in Rotterdam. All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. And for FW20, my muse will be crime writer Agatha Christie. A few months from now, you will get to discover the collections, and see how they tell stories like Agatha’s thrilling books do..
