I AM A FEMINIST

I AM A FEMINIST

by marlies|dekkers

You know I’m a self-made woman who has made it her purpose to challenge women to dare. It’s an achievement I am immensely proud of, and for that reason I am equally proud to label myself a feminist. But looking back more than a hundred years, I’m even prouder of the progress women have made together.

Today, I believe we’re witnessing the dawn of the fourth wave of the feminist movement. A long-overdue correction in gender inequality is at our doorstep. All the signs point to this moment in time being a new and exciting tipping-point in the history of women. Strong, independent women are stepping forward as powerful role models, inspiring and motivating smart, young girls of all backgrounds to make the most of their many talents. And that’s what we need more of today: forward-thinking women. We need women who understand that achieving equality isn’t dependent on external factors; women who understand that equality is not something that is passively received or violently acquired. As masters of our own destiny, the world is asking us to shape a future of opportunity for ourselves. What matters now is action. Action on our part.

“This is our moment and I’m embracing it wholeheartedly as part of the fourth wave.” — Marlies Dekkers

Because I am a feminist.

Watch my 3-minute movie ‘The Awakening‘, which tells the story of the most important moment in my, and every woman’s life: the moment she decides to find her own source of strength.

From the Erasmus Bridge and the Mercedes-Benz Museum to Qatar’s metro network; Ben van Berkel’s iconic landmarks bring people together in rapturous beauty, again and again. I talked with the Dutch architect and educator about sensuality, ‘healthy’ buildings and the remarkable parallels between our designs.

Don’t ignore your emotions; they are much more powerful than you can imagine. By linking the magical world of emotions with hard science, Dutch scientist Pierre Capel, professor emeritus in experimental immunology, shows us the consequences of our feelings and the power of our minds. The message: we can do much more than we think. “Meditate. It’s the single best thing you can do for your health.”

The fact that I feel bikini-confident all year round is, of course, a nice bonus. But for me, the biggest payoff of following the keto diet is the way it optimizes my health and gives me tons of energy.

Super (skin) food

‘If you can’t eat it, why put it on your skin?’. I pretty much live by this beauty adage. After all, with your skin being one of your body’s largest organs, anything – and I mean anything! – you put onto your skin will end up in your bloodstream.
