From stuffing stockings to leaving cookies and milk for Santa - did you know that some of your favorite Christmas traditions come from the Dutch celebration of Sinterklaas, aka St. Nicholas? This 4th century Turkish monk was so kind and generous that he became a saint after his death. In the Netherlands, we still celebrate the anniversary of that day, December 5, with a holiday devoted to the art of gift-giving... and teasing.
Yes, we Dutchies may have the reputation of being somewhat stingy - we prefer the term 'frugal' - but during this time of the year, starting in mid-November with the Saint's arrival by boat, we spoil our loved ones lavishly. More important than the presents, however, are the fun, secretive Sinterklaas rituals surrounding it. Get inspired and follow these 3 steps to become a Secret Santa with a sensual twist!
1. Plant pleasure
We don't know if Sinterklaas really used to throw coins in people's shoes, but for the Dutch version we hide presents in our children's footwear during the night (which evolved into the American tradition of stuffing stockings). Your mission: use your secret agent skills to sneak a small, sexy gift into your favorite person's heels or house slippers at random times during December.
