designer note
An invite for a private tour to The Mauritshuis was at the beginning of this collection. The previously private owned home turned museum, is known for its broad range of famous Dutch paintings from masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer. The Mauritshuis, however, is also a work of art on its own. Build between 1633 and 1644 it shows a type of architecture with many Roman and Greek influences. Pillars, cornices and pediments combined with a certain symmetry are therefore at the core of the design. The owner, Johan Maurits, was a count, prince and a governor. In his role as governor he often visited Brazil with the West Indian Company. He took artists and scientist with him on these trips for them to document the exotic culture, nature and local population, by letting them paint on site. The inspiration for the Spring Summer 2018 collection was based on the Mauritshuis museum, known for his famous Dutch paintings; the adventurous Johan Maurits and his exploring nature; and The Mauritshuis itself, with its Dutch Classicism architecture. This season, be a queen in ivory lace like Frida Kahlo. The Mauritshuis collection was inspired by the magnificent façade of the Mauritshuis, a Golden Age architectural marvel with royal lions. I combined luscious, curly lace with dotted piping and a gorgeous overlay of ivory netting. Weave your own lace out of your deepest desires. Who knows what or whom you might catch?
