Swimwear care guide
Taking good care of your gorgeous swimwear is important when you want it to last as long as possible! You can find the specific care instructions for your marlies|dekkers item on the garment tag attached to your bikini top, bikini bottom or bathing suit, or in the care information of the item on our website. If you want to know more about how to take the best care of your swimwear, read our tips below.
Before you begin, always check the care label to see whether your bikini is suitable for:
Machine wash
If your bikini is suitable for machine washing, it is still recommended to rinse it first to remove chlorine and salt. Avoid using bleach, fabric softeners, or wool detergents, as these can damage the fabric andelastic.
Hand wash
If hand washing is recommended, follow these steps:
hand wash
Step by step
Step 1
Start by rinsing your bikini with clean, cool water to remove chlorine, salt, and sunscreen residues. These can damage the fabric and elastic over time. Gently squeeze the fabric—do not wring.
Step 2
Use a washing bucket, your bathtub, or the bathroom sink to hand wash your bikini.
Step 3
Fill it with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or wool detergents, as they can damage the elastic fibers.
Step 4
Place your bikini in the water and gently press it down until fully submerged and soaked.
Step 5
After about a minute, gently press the fabric to help release dirt and oils. Do not soak for too long and never wring it out.
Step 6
Drain the water and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Step 7
Once rinsed, lay your bikini flat in a towel and gently press to remove excess water.
Step 8
Hang your bikini to dry, preferably in fresh air. Avoid direct sunlight to preserve color and elasticity.
We know it can be quite a lot of work, but you will be pleased when your favorite marlies|dekkers bikini lasts longer!
Drying
Make sure you never tumble dry your swimwear. Even if it is protected inside a washing bag, the heat will break down any elastics and can cause dimpling in your padding. We don’t want you to have to throw away your perfect bikini because of your dryer! We suggest that you shape and lay your bikini flat or hang them to dry. Not by the straps, but either over a shower rod or clipped upside down from the band. This way your bikini will still have that perfect fit it had before washing it, and no harm is done.
