A spy in the secret corners of your soul
A spy in the secret corners of your soul
Spies are not the only ones dealing in secrets. The secret of my own success, for example? My library of 1001 secret fantasies. This is where my collections are born; this is where I empower myself. And so can you! Here's how to explore the hidden powers of your most private place and thrive like never before.
Congratulations! Somehow, you find yourself in the middle of a 1001 Nights fairytale with a magic lamp in your hands. A quick rub, and boom! - a Genie appears. "Describe the night of your wildest dreams, and I will make it happen," he thunders. Wow, 12 hours, one night, all yours. What will you do? Have wild sex on a tropical beach? Break into the Louvre and dance among the statues? Have some blissful, uninterrupted hours of sleep? (We feel you, new mothers).
Close your eyes and visualize. Do you find it hard to give a detailed answer? Don't worry, you're not the only one. Having asked so many women this same question during my coaching sessions, I know how difficult it can be to access our secret desires. We may be getting into our fantasy, already seeing ourselves roll in the sand with a hot stranger, but then a little voice will stop us. "You should feel ashamed," it will say, or "You're not worthy." It's the same voice that has been telling women they're not good enough to start their own business or have orgasmic sex. And the only way we can fight that voice is by daring to dream.
My library of dreams is where I keep my 1001 secret fantasies, stored in boxes. Some are dark and twisted, others are bright and beautiful. But they're all parts of me, and when they're ready to bloom, I share them with you through my designs. Every woman should build this kind of sanctuary of dreams for herself; a space where she can be truly be herself without fear of judgment or rejection, where she can explore her hidden powers.
To start, we need to realize that having secrets is not a bad thing. One of my favorite quotes from Shogun, a magnificent novel and TV series taking place in Japan in 1600, explains how we all have three hearts: one in our mouth for the world to see, one in our chest to show only our loved ones, and one that we keep hidden, deep within. Throughout the ages, women have (often happily) shared their bodies and their minds. But privacy is not a samurai's privilege. It's time to claim some space to nourish your true, private self.
Secondly, see your ability to fantasize as a muscle that needs to be trained. The more you do it, the better you become at it. Go back to visualizing the night of your dreams. This time, be shameless, refuse to tone it down. Nothing is too weird or crazy. There are no taboos. That's the whole point of secret fantasies, right? Once you get a taste for it, you'll keep going - like Scheherazade, the legendary storyteller whose fantastic tales saved her life 1001 nights in a row. Before you know it, you'll have built your own library of fantasies!
Imagining the night of your dreams may not literally save your life, but in the end, it will provide you with something equally important: the tools, self-knowledge and confidence to manifest the life of your dreams. Trust me. No Genie needed.
