Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

by marlies|dekkers

What a year it’s been! While many of us are eager to start 2021, I would like to take a moment and look back at a year that shook us all, but still left me with gratitude and hope in my heart.

With all its ups and downs, 2020 was definitely a rollercoaster! I worried over my family and loved ones; I missed you and my colleagues. Still, our connection was stronger than ever. Social distancing? Sure, we had to distance physically, but we found many exciting new ways to stay close socially. Like I told you in March: we are in this together! You kept treating yourselves to my lingerie – often splurging on colorful statement pieces; a sure sign of self-love – while I created even more platforms to connect with you. How moving it was to see this year’s challenges giving wings to my original mission: to empower women! More than ever, we realized that when we love ourselves, we can inspire self-love in other women. And we reached out to each other, whichever way we could. I may not be able to give you a ‘real’ kiss right now, but I’m blowing you an equally heartfelt one, knowing that whatever 2021 will bring, we’ve got this. Together. Happy New Year!

Highlights

We started off 2020 with a bang! During a spectacular show, featuring performances by singer Famke Louise, we showed our 2020 collections in a kick-ass celebration of feminine feminism. Soon afterwards, our main goal became to help you stay safe and positive. By expanding our e-commerce services – offering, for example, a hugely popular online swimwear fitting room – we made online shopping more convenient and fun for you. In the meantime, social media campaigns like ‘Bring the Summer inside’ lifted everybody’s spirits. To keep inspiring and empowering you, I reached out to other feminine feminists from all walks of life and shared their conversations during ‘The Self-Love Show’ on Instagram Live. And how touched we all were to read the brave, personal stories shared by breast cancer survivors and previvors on our platform! In the end, however, nothing beats real-life contact. Meeting you in person during our corona-proof Fit & Style appointments was definitely one of the highlights of our year, and we cannot wait to see you again in 2021, both online and offline!

In January, I presented my newest FW20 collection during a show full of dance and entertainment in Rotterdam. All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. And for FW20, my muse will be crime writer Agatha Christie. A few months from now, you will get to discover the collections, and see how they tell stories like Agatha’s thrilling books do..

Dr. Bram Bakker is a psychiatrist, a writer, a runner and a provocateur. With his many bestselling books and columns – and yes, even his own theatre show – he urges us to think outside the box when it comes to our mental health. Not crazy about popping pills? Bram shared some interesting alternatives with me, from throwing out our phones to running ‘till we puke’.
