I believe in innerwear becomes outerwear

by Marlies Dekkers
The time that women needed to walk around constricted in tight corsets is over. The time that women needed to show their independency by pulling off their bras is over. Now, it’s the time of feminity, innerwear becomes outerwear!

When you see the lingerie trends throughout the years, you can see a timeline running parallel to the position of females in the Western society. Lingerie has always had an important role in the feminism waves. Around the first feminism wave, women were wearing tight corsets, forced into an imposed silhouette. The second wave was about breaking loose, freedom and independency. Women demanded these rights and used the bra as a symbol in this wave. Bras were pulled off, even burned! Now, we are in the middle of the third wave and lingerie is used again as a symbol, with a bigger role than ever before. Sexiness is completely aloud, being proud on your body and show it is your own choice. Being a feminist and being and looking feminine goes hand in hand.

Innerwear becomes outerwear

Celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Dita von Teese and Sarah Jessica Parker wear my lingerie designs regularly. They embody the innerwear becomes outerwear trend; strong independent women who showing their feminity with dare and proud.

Among bloggers, this trend is getting more and more popular. Such a social progress, these young fashion icons who are showing their self-confidence.

I spotted 3 bloggers in my collection, looking sexy, sensual and conscious of their selves. Get inspired by these great examples of innerwear becomes outerwear.

In January, I presented my newest FW20 collection during a show full of dance and entertainment in Rotterdam. All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. And for FW20, my muse will be crime writer Agatha Christie. A few months from now, you will get to discover the collections, and see how they tell stories like Agatha’s thrilling books do..
