My week; an inside look

by Marlies Dekkers

I never have a week with a same sort of agenda as the week before, or the week ahead. That’s because I sometimes live the life of four different people.

I’m a mom of a daughter in the top of her puberty, I’m the creative director of the marlies|dekkers company and in between I’m doing all kinds of hobbies which I insist to carry out as a professional. I sport just as much as my Olympic athletic trainer, my home cook sessions need to be Michelin-star level, and I want to look at my best for every premiere or event I’m visiting. Do I sound like a perfectionist? Yes, maybe, but this is my way to get the most out of my life. At the same time, this way of living gives me so much energy which keeps me going, with a big smile every day. Curious what a random week of me looks like? Check out my agenda for the upcoming week.

Monday: Reading in the morning for big group of female entrepreneurs. Than a power lady lunch in Brussels, female influencers from different disciplines together at the lunch table.

Tuesday: Lunch with one of our PR agencies to talk about upcoming interviews and TV appearances. In the evening the renowned Red cross Gala party – already stressing for an outfit, anything suitable in my closet?

Wednesday: Presentation for our shareholders, present them my newest designs. Lunch with a true Female Forward who is a good friend of mine and great entrepreneur. In the meanwhile, I bring my baton (the stick a conductor uses) everywhere I go, so I can practice every spare minute I have for Maestro!

Thursday: Being a guest at live Dutch TV show ‘Koffietijd’ to talk about my blog and the collection. Hope it is not a problem I only drink green tea!

Friday: Last preparations for the new lookbook shoot of my fall/winter 2015 collection, starting in a few days. Still need to decide on the model and brief the the team with the concept. I will be the photographer myself!

Saturday: tête-à-tête with actress Lena Dunham in Amsterdam, chatting about her new book.

Sunday: Half a day blocked to hang out with my daughter, we’re planning to go to a spa and having a shopping spree together.

From the Erasmus Bridge and the Mercedes-Benz Museum to Qatar’s metro network; Ben van Berkel’s iconic landmarks bring people together in rapturous beauty, again and again. I talked with the Dutch architect and educator about sensuality, ‘healthy’ buildings and the remarkable parallels between our designs.

More than a feeling

Don’t ignore your emotions; they are much more powerful than you can imagine. By linking the magical world of emotions with hard science, Dutch scientist Pierre Capel, professor emeritus in experimental immunology, shows us the consequences of our feelings and the power of our minds. The message: we can do much more than we think. “Meditate. It’s the single best thing you can do for your health.”

The fact that I feel bikini-confident all year round is, of course, a nice bonus. But for me, the biggest payoff of following the keto diet is the way it optimizes my health and gives me tons of energy.

Super (skin) food

‘If you can’t eat it, why put it on your skin?’. I pretty much live by this beauty adage. After all, with your skin being one of your body’s largest organs, anything – and I mean anything! – you put onto your skin will end up in your bloodstream.
