My intimate moment at Maestro

by Marlies Dekkers
I’m still in the running to become a Maestro and they gave me the ultimate test to stay concentrated. I had to conduct with one of the biggest harp players of the world. Something happened during the show, which made me forget the entire orchestra and audience.

Remy van Kesteren is described as a brilliant harpist. He flies with his harp from Europe to Chigaco, to Asia and Australia and plays with the best orchestras and conductors. The Maestro producers told me I was doing a play with Remy, just like if it was a completely normal message. I told you before how hard it is for me to keep a hold on my nerves during the show. How would it be possible to conduct with somebody I have this deeply respect and admiration for, and do a very intimate session with. Well, we’ll see I thought. Surprisingly, we got a coaching session together a few days before the show. I was excited to meet the young and talented Remy. Not everything was caught on tape, but we had to do a new kind of exercise to get the same rhythm, understand each other’s way of listening to the music. We had to stand really close, watch each other in the eyes and follow the others way of breathing. This gives such an intimate feeling, I couldn’t even hear our coach anymore.

Try this definitely at home, but with someone you dare to be intimate with! At that moment I knew for sure this show was going to become a very special one. And it did.. I felt on stage like this was my only passion, like I wanted to give everything to become a conductor. The brilliant harpist gave me calmth and trust in myself. The judges saw and felt the same, the numbers they gave me were the best I got since Maestro. Thank you Remy!

Last week I invited the entire marlies|dekkers team at my place to watch that weeks episode of Maestro together. I arranged a surprise for them. Remy brought his harp to my house to play a few partitudes live in front of my team. The music was beautiful and everybody was visibly touched. What a great night that was!

Don’t ignore your emotions; they are much more powerful than you can imagine. By linking the magical world of emotions with hard science, Dutch scientist Pierre Capel, professor emeritus in experimental immunology, shows us the consequences of our feelings and the power of our minds. The message: we can do much more than we think. “Meditate. It’s the single best thing you can do for your health.”

The fact that I feel bikini-confident all year round is, of course, a nice bonus. But for me, the biggest payoff of following the keto diet is the way it optimizes my health and gives me tons of energy.

‘If you can’t eat it, why put it on your skin?’. I pretty much live by this beauty adage. After all, with your skin being one of your body’s largest organs, anything – and I mean anything! – you put onto your skin will end up in your bloodstream.
