Royal Halloween

by marlies|dekkers

Hooray for Halloween, that moment of the year you can transform into anyone you want to be! As a matter of fact, when it comes to uncovering my desires and expressing them in my looks, you could say that everyday is Halloween for me. It’s even the main principle behind all my designs: dare to be! So, this Halloween, why not dare to get inspired by my Queen Elizabeth collection and transform yourself into the queen you really are? Let’s rock your royalty!

So, let’s see, what type of Queen are you? Are you a feisty femme fatale with a penchant for corsets and black velvet like the dark-haired Anne Boleyn? Or do you slay in tartan like proud Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots? Or perhaps you are a boss lady like Queen Elizabeth who invented power dressing with her enormous petticoats and glorious ruff collars. Either way, pile on the pearls, cake on the make up and wear anything that makes you look in the mirror and say: ‘Yass queen!’. Who knows, after one Halloween night of throwing tantrums in your tiara you may never want to go back to looking anything less than ‘extra’. After all, why be a princess when you can be a queen?

In January, I presented my newest FW20 collection during a show full of dance and entertainment in Rotterdam. All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. And for FW20, my muse will be crime writer Agatha Christie. A few months from now, you will get to discover the collections, and see how they tell stories like Agatha’s thrilling books do..
