LA’s leading ladies in love with my lingerie!

by marlies|dekkers

When it comes to feminine feminism, TV -with its new generation kick-ass leading ladies expressing my motto ‘Dare to dream, dare to grow, dare to be’- is definitely where it’s at! So when I got invited to play a part in TV’s biggest night of the year, I grabbed my party heels and jetted off to Los Angeles.

What a week it was! We set up an exclusive Emmy Awards gift suite in Beverly Hills where we welcomed our favorite TV stars, from acting legend Angela Bassett to Susanne Bier, the only female nominee for Best Director (she won!). I was interviewed live for NBC – Today in LA and danced the night away with stunning beauties like Dutch actress Famke Jansen and a heavily pregnant Kerry Washington at the hottest Emmy parties.

There were so many glamorous highlights, and fondling gorgeous actress Regina King’s breasts in the middle of a dance floor – hey, she wanted to know her bra size! – was definitely one of them. And I learned that, as far as lingerie is concerned, the stars are a just like you and me. They want a perfect fit combined with a stunning design. They want to feel safe, yet sexy. Big screen, small screen or off screen, we all want the same thing: to shine bright!

  1. Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Angela Bassett (58) who won many awards for her role of Tina Turner in biopic What’s Love Got to Do with it, now starring in American Horror Story.
  1. Jennifer Finnigan (37) from The Bold and the Beautiful and Tyrant. Read my interview with this wonderful Canadian actress on page …
  1. Gorgeous actress Danay García (32), who was born in Cuba and fled the communist regime with her son in 2003. She now plays bad-ass Luciana in Fear the Walking Dead.
  1. Southern belle and acting veteran Lynn Whitfield (63), currently starring in Greenleaf (Oprah Winfrey Network).
  1. Sarah Sokolovic (37), who playas journalist Lauren Sutton on Homeland.
  1. One of my favorite movie actresses Lily Taylor (49), who is now also making waves in TV (American Crime).
  1. Promising young talent Carson Meyer (20) from  The Nice Guys.
  1. Adina Porter (45), who I LOVED in True Blood.
  1. I literally screamed when Danish film director Susanne Bier (56) won an Emmy for directing ‘The Night Manager’!
  1. Beautiful Meagan Holder (32) who stars in Pitch, a Fox series about the (fictional) first female pro baseball player.

In January, I presented my newest FW20 collection during a show full of dance and entertainment in Rotterdam. All my work as a feminist designer is inspired by muses, powerful female icons from past and present. And for FW20, my muse will be crime writer Agatha Christie. A few months from now, you will get to discover the collections, and see how they tell stories like Agatha’s thrilling books do..

Dr. Bram Bakker is a psychiatrist, a writer, a runner and a provocateur. With his many bestselling books and columns – and yes, even his own theatre show – he urges us to think outside the box when it comes to our mental health. Not crazy about popping pills? Bram shared some interesting alternatives with me, from throwing out our phones to running ‘till we puke’.
