To make sure the embroidery feels soft on your skin a softener finish is used. The softener will not disappear after washing, so the embroidery will never irritate your skin. The dotted strap is solely made of embroidery without a base fabric. To achieve this we use solvable paper that is washed away after the embroidering is finished. Then the straps have to be fixed onto the lingerie. A meticulous job.

One of Frida’s most potent weapons was her style. The more she was suffering, the more elaborate and regal she would dress. And so, you could often find Frida laid up in bed in a spectacular headdress and extravagant jewelry, looking like a surrealist vision and a folkloric Mexican queen. It was no coincidence that her beloved voluminous outfits came from the Tehuantepec Isthmus: a matriarchal society where women ruled. Frida wore them like proud feminist statements in velvet and lace. At first glance, the magnificent Tehuana headdress in the painting ‘Diego in My Thoughts’ (1943) looks demure enough with its pleats, flowers and ribbons. But look closely; has Frida woven a web from its not-so-innocent lace? The image of Diego on Frida’s brow seems caught in the tendrils of her thoughts and desires. Yes, he is her ‘child, lover, universe’. But Frida is the queen.
